Hands
On Practice - Creating A New Web Site Using A
Wizard
We will use a wizard to create a
one page web site. FrontPage has several wizards built in to make
rendering complicated design concepts easier. Another wizard that I have
used several times is the Corporate Presence Wizard. I have
also used the Customer Support and Discussion web
site wizards. |
|
Open
FrontPage
-
Open
the FrontPage Application for the first time. Go to START, All Programs, MS
FrontPage, or the program may be at START, All Programs,
Microsoft Office, MS
FrontPage. The icon is a blue box with an arrow pointing to the upper left
hand corner of the blue box.
-
You may want to set a shortcut on your desktop. If you
right click on the program icon and select Send to, Desktop (create
shortcut), the shortcut appears. If you would like a shortcut
in the Quick Launch area of the Taskbar, just drag the shortcut from the
desktop to the Quick Launch Taskbar.
Starting the Wizard
-
Go to FILE > NEW >.
-
The Task Pane opens on the right
side of the application whenever you choose New from the File menu
or you can open the Task Pane in FrontPage 2003, by doing the
following:
On the View menu, select Task Pane. The Task Pane will appear as a
window on the right side of your screen.
-
You may choose from New Page, New Web Site, or
Templates.
-
On the Task Pane, under New
Web Site, select More Web Site Templates. A
dialog box will open showing a number of web sites templates to
select from. Select One Page Web Site from the
available selections.
-
Under Specify the location...
position the cursor in the location box and arrow over to the right
end. Change the name of the web site from mysite
to your own first name and site, like bobsite.
Click on OK.
|
|
 |
-
Your new web site will appear in the application window, as
shown below.
-
If the Folder List is not open on the left side,
click on the Toggle Pane icon as shown.
-
Double click on the home page, index.htm.
Internet standards requires that this page, the first page in your
website, be named index.htm, home.htm, or default.htm.
You must not rename this page. Other pages may be named
anything you want.
-
You should be looking at a blank page.
Congratulations! You now have a web site! Well, not
quite yet.
