Removing Pages From your Web Site

Deleting a page

The time will come when you want to delete a page.  You may have created a new one to replace it, or you might have ended up with an extra one you don't need.

  • From The Folder List – just highlight the page, right click, and select Delete.

  • From Navigation View – just highlight the page, right click, and select Delete.

Deleting a page from an existing published web

When you are working with a published Web site on an Internet server, Microsoft FrontPage 2003 will automatically delete pages from the web server that you have already deleted on your development (local) computer when re-publishing your site. Using the new enhanced Publishing dialog box, there are two ways you can sync deletes between your published and local sites.

Automatic Deletion - To use enhanced publishing to automatically delete files or folders on the published site, open a new or existing Web in FrontPage 2003 and do the following:

  • On the File menu, click Publish Site.

  • Log on to your remote web site by supplying the user ID and password.

  • The application takes you to the Web Site tab, Navigation view.

  • Click on the Remote Web Site Properties button at the top right of the application window, and select the Publishing tab.

  • Select the Changed pages only option, and Determine changes by comparing.... option, and click OK.

  • Click the Publish Web Site button and FrontPage will ask if you want to delete the pages and files that are present on the server, but not in your current Web.

  • Click Yes to delete the specified file in the prompt or Yes to All to delete all of the files that you deleted from the current Web.

Manual Deletion - To delete by hand a file or folder on the published site using the enhanced Publishing dialog box, do the following:

  • On the File menu, click Publish Site.

  • Log on to your remote web site by supplying the user ID and password.

  • The application takes you to the Web Site tab, Navigation view.

  • In the right pane (which displays the files that are on the web server), select the file you want to delete by clicking it.

  •  Click the delete X icon above the right pane.
