Photo Galleries Provide Visual Appeal

Adding a photo gallery of images can add visual interest to your site.  Some students that have used photo galleries include photographers (obviously), landscape designers, interior designers, artists, a harp maker, scout troops, high school reunion planners, and even a gentleman who was designing a site for a military aircraft club.  you might use a photo gallery to display product images, or photos of completed projects, events, trips, etc.

Photos Displayed in a Table

One easy way to create a photo gallery is to make a table an insert your pictures into the table.  You can accommodate different sized images and keep the display from looking too linear by merging cells, or using several one row tables with different column counts.

The photos below are from a recent trip.  They were all 2 megapixel photos (1600 x 1200) 394 KB, which I reduced to 200 x 150, and resampled to 11.5 KB.

I have intentionally left the table margins showing, normally I'd make them disappear. This display is composed of 3 tables: 1 x3, 1 x5, and 1 x4.

You might want to try this out on your own.  We are moving one to the next section, Using the FrontPage Photo Gallery Tool.
